Mayors for Peace Campaign Re-Launched
On September 21 – United Nations International Day of Peace – Peace Quest officially re-launched its bid to persuade John Morgan, Mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM), to join the international Mayors for Peace campaign for a world without nuclear weapons. At a public information session held at Cape Breton University, a petition was opened for signature, noting that “over 1,700 towns and cities from 122 countries, including 57 municipalities across Canada” have so joined ‘Mayors for Peace,’ and urging Mayor Morgan and CBRM to lend their voice to this fast-growing “global chorus of protest against the obscenity and waste of nuclear weapons and the growing threat of their proliferation and use in the 21st Century.”

On Saturday, August 6, Peace Quest Cape Breton held its 4th Annual Hiroshima Day
Commemoration in the Oasis Room at Cape Breton University. The small, solemn ceremony -

Meeting in Sydney on July 20, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) adopted a resolution declaring August 6, 2005, an 'Official Day of Remembrance' to commemorate the atomic bombing of Japan in 1945.

Peace Quest Addresses Cape Breton Regional Municipality on Mayors for Peace Campaign
On July 4, 2005, Peace Quest Cape Breton made a presentation to the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) on the Mayors for Peace campaign. Last August, we invited CBRM Mayor John Morgan to join the initiative, based in Hiroshima, designed to promote the cause of a nuclear-weapon-free world. In June, Mayor Morgan invited us to make our case to the Corporate Services Committee, the body responsible for considering municipal involvement with outside organizations.
